Government lawyers work in challenging and highly specialised situations, managing significant public interest and commercial matters. They play apivotal role in guidingGovernment across the full spectrumof its activities. For all of their legal knowledgeandskill, they canoften feel isolated fromthe wider legal professionat large. The Law Society of New South Wales understands the importance of all solicitors who work in the public sector. They play a vital role in serving the community and upholding the rule of law. At The Law Society of New South Wales, we are keen to constantly refine and improve the support we provide to Government lawyers.

OUR PRIORITIES

YOUR LEARNING Practical education designed with your needs in mind.

The Law Society Professional Development Program has been designed with just one overarching goal in mind: To give our members the knowledge and skills you need to succeed as a lawyer.

YOUR WELLBEING Practising law offers many rewards but can also be very challenging. The Law Society aims to alleviate these challenges, particularly in the areas of mental health and wellbeing. The Law Society can actively address the practices and attitudes that can be difficult for individual solicitors to influence on their own. By taking initiative on issues such as flexible work arrangements and mental health we can effect positive changes across the profession. YOUR PROFESSION Speaking on behalf of the profession, and advocating for change to benefit the community. Through our network of expert policy committees, The Law Society draws on the collective knowledge and experience of members to promote public debate on law reform and legal policy issues. The Law Society is engaged in a constant process of consultation with government and made over 120 legal policy submissions in 2014/15 .
